ASUU STRIKE: FG approve N15.4 billion for Public University funding


The Federal Government has come to a comprise with ASUU which bodes well for the end of the prolonged strike action as N15.4 billon has been approved for public university funding.

The national president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Biodun Ogunyemi, said the National Executive Committee of the union will review its decisions based on the new commitment by the federal government.

He said the strike could only be called off or not after the NEC meeting. He did not say when the meeting will hold.

After a meeting Monday, the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, said a compromise had been reached.

According to the minister, N15.4 billion  had been released by the FG for public university funding. 

As for earned allowances, Mr Ngige said the President has approved N20 billion to be used for outstanding debt to the Union accrued between 2009 and 2012.

He said the earned allowances will be released to ASUU as soon as the process is completed.
