The family of late 300 level University of Ilorin student, Olajide Blessing Omowumi, have received Justice after 3 men were sentenced to death by hanging for raping and murdering her.
The Kwara state High Court sentenced the convicts on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, in llorin after a one and half year legal battle.
The ruling turned emotional as the trial judge, Justice Ibrahim Adebayo Yusuf read out the judgment detailing the gruesome last moments of the 24 year old.
The judge held that the gang had the intention of theft and rape without the intention to kill, however, added that their act led to homicide.
Recall that Omowumi was discovered dead at her sister’s house on 2nd June, 2021. A pathologist at the University of Ilorin had told the court that the deceased was raped and strangled to death.
The DSS had swung into action leading to the arrest of 8 suspects, 3 of whom bagged death sentences on Tuesday.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd suspects; Abdulazeez Ismail, Ajala Oluwatimileyin and Oyeyemi Omogbolahan are to be hanged while the fourth and fifth accused persons were each sentenced to three years in imprisonment for the offence of theft.
The 6th, 7th and 8th suspects; Abdullateef Abdulrahman, Daud Bashir Aderayo and Akande Taiye Oladoja were earlier discharged as they were found to be innocent.
Eight prime suspects, Abdulazeez Ismail, Ajala Oluwatimileyin (aka Jacklord), Oyeyemi Omogbolahan, Abdulkarim Shuaib (aka Easy), Kareem Rasheed (Rashworld), Abdullateef Abdulrahman, Daud Adebayo (aka Bashman) and Akande Taiye Oladojawere, were the 8 arrested persons for the murder of the 300 of Omowumi.
