Former Chelsea and current Hatayspor football player Christian Atsu, has been found dead after days underneath the wreckage of the Turkey earthquake.
This was made known by Atsu’s manager Murat Uzunmehmet who disclosed that the Ghanaian football player passed away.
“Christian Atsu was found and unfortunately died,” his manager said in a statement.
Hatayspor Administrative Manager Fatih İlek, stated that if the Ghanaian football player did not score in the last match, he would not have been in the earthquake. He said:
“Christian Atsu told the coach that he wanted to take more time before our match with Gaziantep FK before the earthquake. “Can I leave if I find a team?” He said.
Volkan Hodja also accepted this request. He didn’t take time in that match; but he had a ticket after the Kasımpaşa match. He would go abroad with his family.
After his enthusiasm, he said, ‘I won’t go, let me stay here.’ He was caught in an earthquake on his happiest day. He had a plane at 23.00 in the evening. Istanbul would then go to France. He gave up, it was literally a tragedy.”
