Gunshots rock Rivers Assembly as impeachment plot against Governor Fubara thickens

The Police on Monday fired gunshots and tear gas to disperse protesters at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.

The crisis in the Assembly is related to the potential impeachment proceeding against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The situation escalated when the house ousted  its leader, Edison Ehie.

Governor Fubara then made a surprise entrance to the Assembly Complex, causing lawmakers to scramble for safety amid the dispersal of tear gas outside the building.

Demonstrators are also adding to the chaos as they are protesting in full force outside the complex.

These dramatic events come on the heels of a fire that ravaged the Assembly Complex on Sunday night.

While the connection between the fire and the political discord remains unclear, rumors of a longstanding feud between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, have been circulating for some time.
