  • The Judge says detention cannot go on without trial
  • The judge blamed EFCC for the ruling

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele has been granted bail after 151 days in detention without trial.

Justice Olukayode Adeniyi of a high Court in Maitama, Abuja made the ruling earlier today and ordered that he should be released to his lawyers.

The judge emphasised that it was the failure of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to abide by the order that the court made on November 2, that led to the ruling.

Meanwhile, the court held that it could not allow Emefiele to remain in custody because of the Federal Government’s claim to call him to court on a fresh charge by November 15.
