Just In: Appeal Court Dismisses Zamfara Governor, Lawal

The Court of Appeal has dismissed Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State as it declared the March 18 Governorship election, which led to Lawal being the elected governor, inconclusive.

A 3-man panel of justices of a Court in Abuja earlier today declared the election null and void and overturned the declaration of Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the governor-elect.

Justice Sybil Nwaka Gbagiz, who announced the lead judgement, ordered that a fresh election be conducted at the Maradun Local Government Area of the State and in other areas where elections were either cancelled or did not hold at all.

The Court added that the use of IREV information to declare Lawal as governor in the absence of polling unit results was illegal, unlawful, and not in line with the constitution.
