Appeal Court confirms Dapo Abiodun as Ogun State Governor

The Court of Appeal in Lagos has confirmed APC's Dapo Abiodun as governor of Ogun State in a judgement based on the majority verdict earlier today

  • A'Court affirms Dapo Abiodun as governor of Ogun State
  • The judge made the ruling based on a majority verdict as he declared him the rightly elected governor of the state

The Court of Appeal has declared Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 18 election in Ogun State.

Declaring the judgement earlier today in Lagos, the three-member panel of the court of appeal headed by Justice Joseph Shagbaor Ikyegh upheld Dapo Abiodun as the legitimately elected governor of the state based on the majority verdict.

Dockaysworld recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Abiodun as the winner of the election ahead of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, Ladi Adebutu.

Meanwhile, Adebutu and his party appealed to the state governorship election tribunal to overturn the outcome of the election over alleged fraud and non-compliance with the electoral act by INEC in conducting the election.

The tribunal, however, rejected the petition for lack of merit in a judgment delivered in September, which led to Adebutu approaching the court of appeal to uphold justice for himself and his party.
