Ondo APC leaders stand firm on Aiyedatiwa as acting Gov, reject Tinubu’s intervention

Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state have insisted that the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa should be given authority as acting governor of the state, hours after the involvement of President Bola Tinubu.

According to a statement released after the meeting and signed by the Chairman, former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Afe Olowookere, and the Secretary, Hon. Raman Rotimi, the APC Chieftains, under the umbrella of Ondo APC Progressives stakeholders in Akure during the weekend emphasised that Aiyedatiwa should be given the power to take over as Acting Governor according to the constitutional provisions towards resolving the political problem in the state.

Tinubu had earlier called for the maintenance of the existing political status, urging Aiyedatiwa to remain as the deputy governor.

However, the Ondo APC stakeholders expressed concerns after the meeting in Akure over the repeated absence of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, stressing that it has affected the governance and economy of the state negatively.

The statement reads:

“APC party members should be allowed to participate and determine those to be appointed or elected into political and party offices.

Elders and leaders of the party must be recognised and given their pride of place in the party, rather than being neglected and ostracised by the party.

The system of writing the names of party executives and candidates without due process will be objected to and resisted with all political and legal means possible.”
