‘Why Port Harcourt Refinery is yet to begin production’ – NNPC

The NNPC says that the Port-Harcourt Refinery is still currently in its testing phase, hence the delay in production.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has revealed why the Port Harcourt Refinery is yet to begin production.

Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., Olufemi Oladapo Soneye said they are still doing test runs on the to ensure operational readiness before commercial operations begin.

He revealed that the refinery went through maintenance in December 2023.

He said after the test-running phase, crude oil will be supplied for refining.

“We have said that the Port Harcourt Refinery has been completed. Test running is ongoing. It is targeted at ensuring that everything, including the lines, is in perfect condition. It is when everything is confirmed to be fine that supply of crude for refining can start,” Soneye said.
