2 Nigerian Islamic clerics die within 24 hours


The Nigerian Muslim community is mourning as two popular Islamic clerics have been confirmed dead within twenty four hours.

The first is a renowned cleric in Oyo State, Sheikh Abdulfatai Muhali Alaga, also known as Alfa Agba of Ibadanland who died at age 80 after battling with an illness.

His remains were buried at 4 pm on Tuesday, according to Islamic rites.

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in a statement on Tuesday, expressed his condolences to the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheik Abdulganiyu Agbotomokekere, and the Muslim Ummah in the state, mourning the demise of Alaga.

“Sheik Alaga worked hand in hand with the Chief Imam of Ibadanland and other top clerics to ensure the religious harmony we are enjoying in Oyo State since 2019 when I took office as governor”, part of the statement read.

The second is a prominent Islamic leader and chairman of the Executive Council of Lagos Central Mosque, Shaykh Abdul-Afis Aá¹£amu Abou, popularly known as Baba Adinni.

He died at the age of 101.

He will be buried by 2pm today, Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Lagos Central Mosque, according to Islamic rites.

The late Islamic scholar recently led Executive Council of the Lagos Central Mosque to reclaim the land of Mosque at Dodan Barracks.
