Philip Shaibu Storms PDP Headquarters To Demand Certificate Of Return

Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu arrived at the PDP headquarters today, demanding issuance of a certificate of return.

Asserting his legitimacy, Shaibu claimed victory in the gubernatorial primary held last week, held at his residence in Benin City.

Addressing the media at the party’s Secretariat, Shaibu stated, “Today is the day set aside for the collection of the certificate of return for the primary winner. I understand someone came yesterday and was given. Well, the court will decide.”

Despite Shaibu’s victory in the parallel primary election, businessman Asue Ighodalo was declared the winner in another PDP Edo gubernatorial election observed by INEC officials.

The returning officer, Bartholomew Moses, announced Shaibu’s victory, citing over 300 votes.

Some delegates, initially denied access to the primary venue, moved to Shaibu’s residence.

The situation had created uncertainty regarding whether the PDP will grant Shaibu’s request for the certificate of return, designating him as the party’s candidate for the Edo State governorship election.
