After some time, the pilot radioed that the aircraft would not reach the airport.

The plane burst into flames when it crashed in a grassy median just off Interstate 40 and behind a Costco on the city’s westside.

The crash scene was about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) south of the general aviation airport.

“It appears that everyone on board perished,” Metro Nashville Police Department spokesman Don Aaron said.

The exact number of victims was not immediately known.

Authorities also were working to determine from where the plane originated.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate.

This incident comes barely a month after the helicopter which conveyed the late Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, his wife and others crashed.

The aircraft was seen by several witness in vehicles who reported it as a “fireball” before it crashed.

Recall that Wigwe, his wife, son and the former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), Abimbola Ogunbanjo, were all in the Airbus Helicopters EC 130B4 with registration number N130CZ which crashed near Halloran Springs, California on February 9, in which all six people onboard including the pilot and co-pilot died.
