Nigerian Chess master Tunde Onakoya has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest non-stop chess game without losing in New York.
Tunde who’s been playing for 58 hours beat the record set by Norwegian players in the past with a time of 56 hours and 9 minutes.
The moment was captured on the livestream and Tunde’s handler would go on X to announce the feat too whil stating that they were pushing for 60 hours.
He wrote:
We’re pushing to 60 hours guys. We’re not stopping yet. Let’s keep going. We have a fundraising goal to meet for the education of African children around the world. This is our why – the reason we are doing this. Let’s demonstrate to the world the incredible power of love. Together, we can make this happen.
Tunde partnered with US counterpart Shawn Martinez, both national masters, to not only to break the record but also to draw attention to the importance of providing educational opportunities to disadvantaged children across Africa.
Joined by Martinez after 23 hours of play, the duo continued their quest, garnering support from notable figures including Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Omyele Sowore, and musicians Davido and Adekunle Gold.
