Binance Executive who escaped Nigerian Custody arrested in Kenya

A senior official at cryptocurrency platform Binance, Nadeem Anjarwalla, has been apprehended in Kenya following his escape from Nigerian custody some weeks ago.

Kenyan law enforcement sources state that Anjarwalla is now facing extradition back to Nigeria, with INTERPOL leading the efforts.

The arrest, carried out late on Sunday, was confirmed by undisclosed government insiders. Anjarwalla’s capture comes after investigations led by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which tracked him to Kenya following his escape from Nigerian authorities.

Collaborative efforts between the EFCC, INTERPOL, and police forces of both Nigeria and Kenya are underway to expedite the extradition process. Despite attempting to evade authorities upon arrival in Kenya, Anjarwalla was located, and plans to return him to Nigeria are in progress.

The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, highlighted international cooperation in the case, emphasizing the charges against Anjarwalla and Binance Holdings Limited, including tax evasion, currency speculation, and money laundering amounting to $35,400,000.

While Tigran Gambaryan is already detained, efforts to prosecute Anjarwalla are escalating, with involvement from INTERPOL, the FBI, and various governments, as preparations for his trial progress.
