EFCC Chairman Speaks on Drastic Measures against Internet Fraudsters

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has said that drastic measures are necessary to combat cybercrime in Nigeria


The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede has stressed the need to employ drastic measures in tackling the menace of internet fraud.

Olukoyede made this known while receiving a delegation from the Information Security Society of Africa – Nigeria, (ISSAN) led Vice President, Dr. Martin Ikpehai who emphasized the need for closer collaboration in combating cybercrimes and financial fraud in Nigeria.

Dr. Ikpehai praised the EFCC’s efforts in addressing cybercrimes but stressed the importance of a sustainable approach to tackling internet fraud.

He highlighted the alarming existence of “yahoo schools” across the country, where individuals are trained in cybercrimes, underscoring the urgency for enhanced cooperation between ISSAN and EFCC.

The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, welcomed the sentiment, acknowledging ISSAN’s focus on cyber security and promising increased collaboration. He stressed the necessity of engaging all stakeholders to effectively combat cybercrimes and reiterated the EFCC’s commitment to staying ahead of cyber criminals through technology-driven strategies.

He said:

“We have a lot to do on cybercrime and security as it were and that is what we do. We have to engage all stakeholders and ensure that we take drastic measures to stop  criminals in cyberspace. The more we come together, the better for the country to prosecute the war on cybercrime and security”

He added, “if crime is technology driven, the approach to fight it should also be technology driven”.
