A video showing late veteran singer Onyeka Onwenu’s final performance before her death has emerged.
In the footage, the legendary artiste and ace broadcaster was seen singing her hit songs at the 80th birthday celebration of Emzor Pharmaceuticals CEO, Stella Okoli which held at Banana Island, Lagos.
The 72-year-old sang with her signature energy and passion.
Onwenu, known for her engaging stage presence, even took a moment to greet some guests mid-performance, including a respectful bow to greet former Anambra governor, Peter Obi.
She was confirmed dead few minutes at Reddington hospital in Victoria Island, where she was rushed to after she slumped during performance.
Popularly called “Queen of Music”, Onwenu is known for several hit songs that have made impacts in the Nigerian music scene.
Some of her popular songs include “One Love,” “Iyogogo,” “You and I (We Can Conquer the World),” “Ekwe,” “African Woman,” and “Bia Nulu.”
She is survived by her husband and their two children, Tijani and Abraham Nwokoye.
Despite her public persona, Onwenu has kept her family life relatively private.
Her family is yet to confirm the death.
