Peter Obi reacts to death of Nigerian coach


The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi has expressed sadness over the news of the ghastly motor accident involving Heartland Football Club of Owerri, Imo State.

Recall that the accident which occured at Okwelle in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo at about 4pm on Friday led to the death of the club’s Coach, Christian Obi.

Media Officer of the club, Tunde Liadi explained that the accident happened when the Coaster bus conveying the coach and players collided with a stationary truck, in a bid to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle.

According to him, there were at least 20 members of the team in the bus and that some players sustained various degrees of injuries.

Taking to X handle on Saturday, Peter Obi said he received the sad news with a “heavy heart.”

He extended his condolences to the family of the deceased coach, Heartland football club, the Imo state government and the Nigeria football family as well as the injured, praying to God for their quick recovery.

“I pray God to grant the bereaved the fortitude to bear the loss,” the former Anambra governor added.
