At least three officers have been killed after gunmen attacked and set fire to the Umunze Police Station in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The assailants used improvised explosives and engaged in a continuous gunfire exchange, which caused damage to the station, Dockaysworld gathered.
During the attack, the three officers on duty were killed while trying to defend the facility.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the recovery of their bodies, which have been taken to a morgue.
The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reported that a joint security team, including the police, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, and civil defense, have recovered five unexploded devices linked to the attackers.
They are actively pursuing the armed secessionist group responsible for the assault.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has visited the site to evaluate the situation and enhance security measures.
He called on anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward, assuring that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
