President Bola Tinubu has urged Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party to seek legal redress they are not satisfied with the outcome of the Edo State governorship election.
He made this known in a statement signed by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday night while congratulating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on his victory.
Senator Okpebholo was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after securing 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Ighodalo, who received 247,274 votes, and Akpata, who garnered 22,763 votes.
President Tinubu commended the APC leadership and supporters in Edo State for their hard work and dedication, noting that the victory reflects the people’s confidence in the party’s progressive policies.
He called on Senator Okpebholo to view the victory as a call to service and urged him to unite the state by reaching out to his opponents.
He encouraged those dissatisfied with the result to follow legal procedures, saying that peaceful political contests strengthen the country’s democracy.
