A former chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Fulani Kwajafa is dead.
He passed away on October 23, 2024, at age 88.
In 1991, Kwajafa was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, where he spearheaded the agency’s efforts against drug trafficking, notably strengthening Nigeria’s position in the fight against illicit drug operations.
He is known for his profound impact on Nigerian law enforcement.
Born on December 22, 1936, in Kwajafa Village, Borno State, he began his journey as a constable in the Nigeria Police Force in 1954.
Rising to Commissioner of Police by 1984, Kwajafa’s expertise, especially in criminal investigations, earned him a reputation for tackling high-profile cases across the country, along with numerous accolades, including the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR).
His international influence was marked by his appointment as Chairman of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs in 1993, the first African to hold this role.
Kwajafa is survived by his wife, Patience, children, grandchildren, and his son Nuhu Fulani Kwajafa, who continues his legacy of public service as the Director General of the Global Initiative for Peace, Love, and Care.
