Two ex lawmakers die within 24 hours


Two prominent former lawmakers in Nigeria have died within a span of 24 hours.

Hon. Christopher Ayeni, former Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, passed away on Thursday following a tragic car accident.

Just hours later, Hon. Babatunde Eesuola, a former lawmaker from Oyo State, succumbed to illness in Ibadan.

Ayeni, known for his dedication to public service, lost his life in an accident near Igbaja Junction in Ajase-Ipo, Kwara.

The former Deputy Speaker, who previously served in various governmental roles, including Commissioner for Agriculture, was remembered as a forthright leader who significantly impacted Kwara’s political landscape.

He was a respected chieftain within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and held the chieftaincy title of Akogun of Isapa Land in Ekiti Local Government Area.

In Oyo State, Hon. Eesuola, former representative of Atiba Constituency, passed away in Ibadan after a brief illness.

A dedicated member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eesuola was also chair of the Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency.

His untimely death came just days before he was scheduled to defend his PhD at the University of Ibadan.

Community members and political associates in both states have expressed deep sorrow over the losses.

Ekiti APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, described Ayeni as an irreplaceable figure, while Eesuola’s colleagues shared tributes highlighting his commitment to Oyo’s development.
