At least five banks have been sealed by the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) due to outstanding land use charge debts amounting to N1.7 billion.
The banks affected include Zenith Bank, FCMB, Keystone Bank, Unity Bank, and Bank of Agriculture, along with several other businesses such as Chicken Republic, Forte Oil, and the A.G. Leventis building.
KADIRS had previously issued demand notices but received no responses, prompting the enforcement of the law.
The action was based on a court order that authorized the closure of the properties until the outstanding debts are cleared.
KADIRS officials stated that this was part of a week-long effort to ensure compliance with tax obligations.
In addition to these businesses, Hamdala Hotel was also sealed for owing N115 million in land use charges.
The enforcement is part of ongoing efforts by KADIRS to collect owed revenue and ensure businesses comply with tax laws.
