Unidentified gunmen have abducted Dr. Collinus Onuigbo, a neurosurgeon at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, Anambra State.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night, just days after Governor Chukwuma Soludo launched Operation Udo ga-achị (Peace Must Reign), a security initiative designed to combat crime and restore peace in the state.
Reports indicate that Dr. Onuigbo was kidnapped in front of his residence, located only a short distance from the teaching hospital.
His family, deeply shaken by the event, is reportedly making frantic efforts to secure his safe release.
Anambra State Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and stated that the command is actively working to rescue the victim.
He explained that the State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono-Itam, has deployed officers and initiated a manhunt for the kidnappers. Investigators are following leads to locate the perpetrators and ensure Dr. Onuigbo’s safe return.
