The House of Representatives Constitution Review Committee has proposed the creation of 31 more states, increasing the total from 36 to 67.
The proposal was presented during a plenary session on Thursday in Abuja by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.
The committee outlined the distribution of the proposed states, with six in the North Central, four in the North East, five in the North West, five in the South-South, and seven in the South West.
The committee outlined constitutional requirements for creating new states, including approval from the National Assembly, State Houses of Assembly, and Local Government Councils.
Proposals must follow strict guidelines and be submitted in hard copies and electronically to the committee’s secretariat.
