The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested Adam Imam Yusuf, a Deputy Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kogi State.
He is accused of diverting over N3 billion in public funds.
Yusuf had been avoiding arrest but was finally caught at his home in Gwagwalada, Abuja by ICPC officers.
The investigation revealed that the fraud was planned by retired Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, a former Chief of Naval Staff, with help from Yusuf and retired Brigadier General Ishaya Bauka Gangum.
The scheme involved 92 fake companies that were not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). The stolen money was used to buy 18 properties, including filling stations.
So far, four properties have been taken back by the federal government, and legal action is ongoing to recover the rest.
ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare confirmed in a press statement that the commission is still working to catch other suspects who are on the run.
The ICPC has promised to continue fighting corruption and ensuring that public officials are held accountable.
