The Zamfara State government has banned all political gatherings, including rallies, to maintain peace and stability in the state.
This decision takes effect immediately and applies to all political parties.
Zamfara, a state in northwestern Nigeria, has faced serious security issues for years, leading to many deaths and displacing hundreds of residents.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, explained that the ban followed a violent political clash in Maru Local Government Area, which resulted in loss of lives and property damage.
He clarified that the ban is temporary and aims to prevent further violence, not to suppress anyone.
Security agencies have been ordered to arrest any politicians who disobey the ban.
However, the opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC), criticized the decision.
Their spokesperson, Malam Yusuf Idris Gusau, said the government is only reacting to a successful APC event held on Saturday.
He insisted that their members are law-abiding and will continue to hold meetings, arguing that there is no law preventing political gatherings.
