A bird flu outbreak has killed 300 birds on a farm in Plateau State, Nigeria.
Dr Shase’et Sipak, the state’s Chief Veterinary Officer, said the farm is in Bassa Local Government Area.
The disease, also called avian influenza, was confirmed by the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) in Jos.
Dr Sipak explained that when they heard about the suspected outbreak, they collected samples from the farm. Tests confirmed it was bird flu.
Out of the 300 birds, more than 280 died. The remaining birds were killed to stop the disease from spreading.
The farm has been sealed off, and other safety measures were taken to protect nearby farms.
Dr Sipak advised all poultry farmers in the state to strengthen their biosecurity measures to prevent the disease from spreading further.
