At least 10 people lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident on the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway on Tuesday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 3 PM at a checkpoint in Warsala town when a truck carrying cement and passengers lost control, overturned, and plunged into a ditch.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck also collided with a Sharon car at the checkpoint before veering off the road.
Fortunately, the driver of the Sharon car escaped unharmed, though his vehicle was damaged.
The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim said the injured passengers were taken to Specialists Hospital in Damaturu for treatment.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
