Bus Crashes With Petrol Tanker On Highway Causing Massive Fire


A Toyota Mazda bus carrying planks crashed into a parked petrol tanker along the Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway on Saturday afternoon, causing a massive fire.

According to reports, the bus, registered as BKN 332 XB (Lagos), collided with the tanker, which was carrying 45,000 litres of petrol. The tanker, registered as GMB 174 JB (Gombe), had been parked on the roadside due to a mechanical fault.

Confirming the incident, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, stated that both vehicles were completely destroyed by the fire, but no lives were lost.

Firefighters from the agency were dispatched immediately and managed to put out the fire after an hour-long operation using chemical foam and other firefighting measures to prevent an explosion.

Initial investigations suggest that the bus was speeding when it crashed into the tanker from behind, triggering the fire.
