Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has vowed to uphold constitutional order and ensure stability in Rivers State despite the ongoing political challenges.
Speaking to the people of the state, he stated that every decision made since assuming office has been in line with his oath of office and the need to protect lives, property, and the progress of the state.
He acknowledged the political tension but assured residents that his administration remains committed to the rule of law.
He recalled how, following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, his government promptly implemented the agreed terms, including reinstating commissioners who had earlier resigned.
Additionally, after receiving the Supreme Court’s certified judgment, he swiftly took steps to restore normalcy in the state.
Fubara stressed that his actions were not driven by personal interest but by a desire for peace and stability.
However, he expressed frustration over the resistance from members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, stating that their actions had made genuine peace and progress difficult.
Despite the political disputes, he reassured the people that governance had not suffered.
Salaries continued to be paid, development projects were ongoing, and the state remained secure under his leadership.
He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while his administration engages with relevant institutions to strengthen democracy and ensure Rivers State continues to thrive.
Fubara called on the people to remain resilient, patient, and confident in the democratic process, affirming that the state would overcome the current challenges.
Rivers Govt Questions Fubara’s Removal While Wike Stays
The Rivers State Government reacted with shock to President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara while leaving Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in office.
The state government expressed concern that Wike, who has been accused of fueling the political crisis in Rivers, was not affected by the president’s action.
In a statement, the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, described the development as unfair.
He noted that despite the political challenges in the state, Fubara remained committed to his duties, maintaining peace and ensuring the state’s progress.
Since assuming office, Fubara focused on protecting lives and property while carrying out his constitutional responsibilities.
Even during the political crisis, he prioritized the interests of Rivers people over personal or political considerations. Following President Tinubu’s intervention to restore peace, the Rivers State Government implemented the agreed terms, including reinstating commissioners who had earlier resigned.
The government also complied with the Supreme Court’s ruling immediately after receiving the official judgment.
However, the commissioner pointed out that despite these steps, lawmakers loyal to Wike have continued to create problems.
He expressed surprise that while Fubara was removed, Wike, who played a key role in the crisis, remained in office.
