Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has confirmed that she will go ahead with her planned visit to her constituency for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, despite a recent ban on rallies in the state.
In a statement released by her media team on Tuesday, the senator dismissed rumours that she had cancelled her visit, urging her supporters to ignore the misinformation.
“We are pleased to confirm that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sallah visit to Kogi Central will proceed as scheduled. Despite online rumours, no official statement has been issued regarding a cancellation,” the statement read.
Akpoti-Uduaghan reassured her supporters that she remains committed to engaging with her constituents and celebrating the occasion with them. She encouraged them to come out in large numbers to join the festivities, emphasising her dedication to fostering unity in the community.
Her announcement comes shortly after the Kogi State Government imposed a ban on public gatherings and rallies due to security concerns.
The government cited intelligence reports suggesting that some individuals were planning to stage violent demonstrations under the guise of political and religious activities.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, explained that the ban was a precautionary measure to maintain peace, particularly after recent violence in some local government areas led to the loss of lives.
Despite these restrictions, Akpoti-Uduaghan has assured that all necessary preparations have been made for a peaceful and successful Sallah celebration in Kogi Central.
