NYC Distances Self From Planned Nationwide Protest

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria has distanced itself from the planned nationwide protest, “Take-It-Back,” warning that such demonstrations could heighten tensions and destabilize the country.

In a statement issued in Kaduna on Sunday, the council’s president, Isah Abubakar, acknowledged the frustrations many young Nigerians are facing but stated that the current situation calls for restraint, dialogue, and unity rather than street protests.

The group expressed concerns about the rising tension and fragile socio-political climate in the country, recognizing the grievances driving calls for protest.

However, they urged peaceful engagement and cautioned against actions that could worsen the situation.

The council also referenced past protests, such as the EndSARS movement, which were hijacked by hoodlums, leading to violence and destruction.

They warned against a repeat of such tragic events.

While the council acknowledged the legitimacy of the concerns raised by the protest organizers, it stressed that national peace and stability must take priority.

They reaffirmed their commitment to working with government agencies and stakeholders to ensure that the voices of the youth are heard through lawful and constructive means.

The council also appealed to young Nigerians to unite through dialogue and civic engagement rather than protests, promoting an inclusive and progressive nation.

In conclusion, the Northern Youth Council urged Nigerians to remain calm, avoid violence, and trust ongoing efforts by the authorities to address the country’s pressing issues.

They called for patience, stating that lasting change can only come through peaceful, strategic action.
