The #Take-It-Back protest in Port Harcourt was disrupted by officers from the Rivers State Police Command who used tear gas to disperse demonstrators.
The protest, organised by members of the Take-It-Back Movement, Civil Society Organisations, and the Niger Delta Congress, began at Isaac Boro Park. Participants gathered peacefully, but the police arrived and instructed them to move to a different location.
Refusing to leave, the protesters began singing and marched through the park toward the busy Aba Express Road.
When they got to the CFC junction, they were confronted again by armed police officers, who ordered them to leave the area.
The protesters chose to continue their demonstration instead.
In response, the officers fired tear gas into the crowd, causing panic and forcing the protesters to flee in different directions for safety.
The protest had started as a peaceful march but ended in confusion as the crowd scattered due to the tear gas.
