The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has cut two grants worth over $2.7 million to Harvard University and has threatened to revoke its ability to enroll international students.
The decision comes as the Trump administration takes action against the university for rejecting government demands that it claims interfere with Harvard’s autonomy.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem criticized the university for fostering a “hostile learning environment” for Jewish students, accusing it of allowing anti-American and pro-Hamas ideologies to spread on campus.
The cuts include a $1.9 million grant aimed at violence prevention and a second grant that funded what DHS described as a biased study.
Noem stated that Harvard’s stance on these issues endangers national security.
Harvard has already had student visas revoked for some international students involved in pro-Palestinian protests.
The university’s leadership has responded by vowing to uphold its independence and continue its efforts to fight antisemitism.
