The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially declared Tuesday, April 29, 2025, as the first day of Dhul-Qadah 1446 AH.
This announcement came after the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC) confirmed that the new moon of Dhul-Qadah was not sighted across Nigeria on the evening of Sunday, April 27.
As a result, Monday, April 28, is observed as the 30th and final day of Shawwal 1446 AH.
In the Islamic lunar calendar, if the new moon is not seen, the current month automatically completes 30 days.
Therefore, Muslims in Nigeria will begin the new month of Dhul-Qadah, the eleventh month of the Islamic year, on Tuesday, April 29.
