Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the late gospel singer Osinachi, has been sentenced to death by hanging, Dockaysworld reports.
Justice Nwosu-Iheme of the FCT High Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, delivered the judgment on Monday, April 28, 2025.
Nwachukwu was found guilty of causing his wife’s death on April 8, 2022.
The judge ruled that the prosecution successfully proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Federal Government, represented by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, had charged Nwachukwu with 23 offences.
These included culpable homicide (punishable by death), spousal abuse, child cruelty, and criminal intimidation.
During the trial, 17 witnesses, including two of Osinachi’s children, testified against Nwachukwu.
The prosecution also presented 25 documents as evidence.
Nwachukwu defended himself by testifying and calling four witnesses, also submitting four exhibits to support his case.
Before the sentencing, Nwachukwu’s lawyer, Reginald Nwali, pleaded for mercy.
However, the prosecution, represented by Mrs. Aderonke Imala, urged the court to uphold the full weight of the law.
Justice Nwosu-Iheme sentenced Nwachukwu to death by hanging on the first charge (culpable homicide).
He was also sentenced to two years’ imprisonment each on several other charges and given shorter sentences and fines on the remaining charges.
Specifically:
2 years imprisonment each for counts 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18
6 months imprisonment for count 10
3 years imprisonment for count 11
A fine of ₦500,000 for count 6
A fine of ₦200,000 for count 7
