Abia State Legislators Pass Law to Abolish Pension for Former Governors, Deputies

The Abia State of Assembly has passed a law to end pensions for past Governors and their deputies.


Lawmakers in Abia State House have passed a bill abolishing pensions for former Governors and Deputy Governors of the state. 

The Bill is known as ‘H.A.B 11: The Abia State Governor’s and Deputy Governor’s Pensions Law Repeal Bill 2024’, is aimed at reducing cost of governance and release more funds go development. 

This is according the sponsor of the bill, Majority Leader and member representing Arochukwu constituency in the House, Mr Okoro Uchenna Kalu.

The passage of the bill was announced by the Speaker of the Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa who praised his colleagues for the synergy and cooperation in repealing the Abia State Governor’s and Deputy Governor’s Pensions Law number 4 of 2021.

Meanwhile, the Abia State House of Assembly has also passed the Bill called ‘H.A.B 9: The Faith Based and Private Colleges of Nursing Sciences Establishment Bill 2024’ for a second reading.
