Afenifere leader, Ayo Adebanjo is dead


Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo, a veteran nationalist and elder statesman, has passed away at the age of 96.

He died peacefully on the morning of Friday, February 14, 2025, at his home in Lekki, Lagos State.

A respected lawyer and former organising secretary of the Action Group, Adebanjo also served as the national leader of Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-cultural group.

He is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, as well as his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

His family described him as a man devoted to justice and fairness, dedicating his life to the progress of Nigeria.

Plans are being made for his funeral, with discussions ongoing among his associates and well-wishers.

The funeral details will be shared later.

Condolence registers have been placed at his Lekki residence and his country home in Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The announcement was made by his family members, Mrs. Ayotunde Atteh, Mrs. Adeola Azeez, and Mr. Obafemi Ayo-Adebanjo.
