President Bola Tinubu is reportedly gearing up for a cabinet reshuffle shortly, according to sources with knowledge of the matter.
Dockaysworld gathered that concerns over the performance and preparedness of some cabinet members has prompted the president to consider the move.
The President, who inaugurated his cabinet in August, has expressed dissatisfaction with certain appointees, stating that some are “struggling in their portfolios and unprepared for the job.”
During a Cabinet Retreat at the Conference Centre of the Presidential Villa in Abuja in November, President Tinubu warned cabinet members and top appointees against underperformance.
“You will sign a bond with me. If you are performing, nothing to fear; if you miss the objective, if you don’t perform, you leave us,” President Tinubu said at the retreat.
As part of efforts to assess and report the performances of cabinet members, the President instructed his Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, to reactivate the “Presidential Delivery Tracker.”
The move aimed to hold members accountable for their responsibilities.
Meanwhile, rumours of cabinet reshuffle is said to have gone round across ministries, causing anxiety among ministers.
The Will also reported that the ongoing corruption scandal involving two ministers, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Minister Dr. Betta Edu, might play a role in the upcoming reshuffle.
Edu has been suspended from office, and Tunji-Ojo is implicated in a firm, New Planet Projects Ltd, which received N438 million in “consultancy fees” related to the National Social Register contract.
While the specific ministers facing removal have not been confirmed, one of the sources suggested that “as many as five could be dropped.”
Additionally, a new minister is expected to be appointed for the Ministry of Labour and Employment following the resignation of Simon Bako Lalong, a former Plateau State Governor, who now represents Plateau South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
