Appeal Court Confirms Election of Ugochinyere as Ideato North Rep
The Court of Appeal has affirmed the election of Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, representing the Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo state.
The Court of Appeal has confirmed Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere as the elected member of the House of Representatives, representing the Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo state.
The Court Panel headed by Justice Abubakr Babandi Gumel made the ruling in Lagos.
The judge countered the judgement of the Imo state National/State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, which had earlier disqualified Ikenga and nullified his election.
Reacting to this, the counsel of Ikenga, Emeka Ozoani, SAN, expressed that the judgement is a victory for democracy and an end to political dishonesty.
He, however, said that the absurdity of the Tribunal judgement led to the filing of nine appeals before the Appeal Court, which is the highest number of appeals ever against a singular judgement in the nation’s election petition jurisprudence.
