An Appeal court has overturned the Kano judgement that sacked him as governor

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has achieved another significant legal triumph merely two weeks after emerging victorious at the State governorship election petition tribunal.

The latest win transpired at the Appeal Court in Kano State, where the judgment handed down by the Kano State Federal High Court on May 18 was dismissed.

Justice M. N. Yunusa, who presided over the Kano State Federal High Court’s initial ruling, purportedly removing Otti from office, found his decision under scrutiny.

The Appeal Court, in its verdict issued on Friday, highlighted the trial court’s hasty determination of the case, noting the absence of necessary parties who were the primary subjects of the claims in the lawsuit.

Furthermore, the appellate court imposed a financial penalty of one million naira (N1,000,000) against the plaintiff, Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim.

The lawsuit (FHC/KN/CS/107/2023) had been filed by Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim, seeking the disqualification of all elected candidates from the Labour Party.
