Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the flooding that wreaked havoc and killed some people in Adamawa State.
Reports say the flood which hit the Madagali Local Government Area of the state affected 11 communities, and displaced about 14,000 persons with 6 deaths.
The flood put on hold both social and economic activities as it cut off the Shuwa bridge, destroying houses, shops, boreholes, and many valuables were destroyed.
Taking to his official X handle on Monday evening, Atiku extended his condolences to families of those who lost their loved ones to the “devastating” flood that has ravaged Madagali LGA.
“In particular, my deepest sympathies and solidarity extend to the countless souls affected in the hardest-hit communities: Kirchinga, Duhu, Maiwandu, Jahili, Kokohu, Lumadu, Zhau, Palam, Kwambula, Shuware, and Shuwa,” he wrote.
The former vice president commended the “swift and compassionate” response of the Adamawa State Government.
He called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to join hands with the State Government, and ensure that aid reaches every individual in dire need.
The 2023 PDP presidential candidate further implored the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET) to provide timely and accurate weather forecasts to enable the safe evacuation of residents from the “most vulnerable areas, thus mitigating future loss of life.”
