A devasting attack has reportedly been carried out in a Nigerian Army base as Boko Haram militants have killed over 20 personnel, including a commanding officer, two senior officers, and 17 soldiers, while many others remain missing.
The assault occurred on January 24, 2025, at the 149 Battalion in Malam-Fatori, located in Borno State’s Abadam Local Government Area, a border town near Niger.
Sources confirm that the insurgents used multiple gun trucks to launch the attack, setting fire to military vehicles and buildings.
The raid lasted for several hours, and while some bodies have been recovered, numerous soldiers are seriously injured, and the number of missing personnel is still unknown.
Thousands of civilians displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency are taking refuge in Malam-Fatori.
This latest attack follows another on January 20, when Boko Haram militants targeted the Forward Operating Base in Damboa, Borno, causing numerous casualties.
The terrorist group has been gaining ground in the region, with ISWAP—an offshoot of Boko Haram—claiming responsibility for the violence.
Boko Haram’s insurgency has led to over 100,000 deaths and displaced millions in northeastern Nigeria, particularly in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states.
Despite the Nigerian Army’s claims of largely defeating the insurgency, attacks like these continue to highlight the persistent threat posed by the group.
