Breaking: Affiliated Unions Join NLC Nationwide Strike
Affiliated unions of the NLC and TUC have joined the nationwide strike declared earlier today following the physical assault on Joe Ajaero
Affiliated unions have joined the nationwide strike that was declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) earlier today.
The NLC issued union circulars earlier today in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle stating its compliance with the rule.
Meanwhile, the National Union of Food Beverage and Tobacco Employees, the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), the National Union of Electricity Employees, the Nigeria Union of Railway Workers, and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) are part of the unions that have joined the industrial action.
Other affiliated unions are the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE), the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP).
The strike was declared following the assault on NLC President, Joe Ajaero about two weeks ago when he and other NLC members were in Imo State for a protest over non-payment of salaries and pensions for 44 months and violations of other labour rights.
