The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia has confirmed that the legal case against Allen Onyema, CEO of Air Peace, and Ejiroghene Eghagha, the airline’s chief of administration and finance, still stand.
Contrary to reports by some Nigerian media outlets, the charges against the two executives have not been dropped.
In fact, new allegations related to obstruction of justice have been added.
Onyema and Eghagha are accused of submitting false documents to interfere with a federal investigation, leading to their 2019 indictment on bank fraud and money laundering charges.
Despite some media reports suggesting otherwise, the U.S. legal proceedings continue, with arrest warrants still in effect.
The confusion arose from inaccurate reporting on October 22, which misinterpreted old statements by AO Alegho and Co., a law firm that had earlier commented on the sentencing of Ebony Mayfield, a former U.S. employee linked to the case.
Mayfield was sentenced in 2022 after pleading guilty to signing false documents connected to a $20 million aircraft deal involving Air Peace.
The U.S. case against Onyema and Eghagha remains unresolved.
