Court Gives Latest Update On Portable After Arraignment

A Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday, granted bail to popular singer, Habeeb Okikiola Olalomi, also known as Portable, in the sum of ₦2 million.

Portable was brought before the court for allegedly assaulting government officials.

His arrest followed an incident on Wednesday when he turned himself in at the Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) in Lagos after being declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command.

He was later transferred to the police headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The singer, famous for his hit song Zazoo Zeh, faced a five-count charge, including conspiracy, assault, preventing public officers from performing their duties, and carrying dangerous weapons like cutlasses and guns.

Portable pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Nine of his associates had earlier been brought to court on February 6, facing similar accusations. They are:

Nurudeen Warris (21)

Adetola Alashe (25)

Samuel Adeleke (28)

Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19)

Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20)

Gospel Kanu (20)

Precious Ohiegebo (19)

Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27)

Fatimo Muhammed (26)

They were accused of attacking three town planning officers — Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero — who were carrying out their official duties at Odogwu Bar, a property owned by Portable.

After Portable pleaded not guilty, his lawyer, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, appealed to the court for bail. The lawyer assured the court that Portable was remorseful.

Magistrate O. L. Oke granted bail in the sum of ₦2 million with one surety. The case was adjourned to March 5 for trial.
