Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has issued a public statement retracting his earlier criticism of Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Umar Abba.
This comes after the singer’s initial outburst accusing the police commissioner of failing to curb political violence in the state.
In a press release titled “MY TAKE ON OSUN CP, NPF AND FORTHCOMING LG ELECTIONS,” Davido acknowledged that his emotions had gotten the better of him following reports of violence and bloodshed in Osun State.
He admitted to unfairly placing blame solely on the Commissioner of Police and other security chiefs.
The singer revealed that further review of the situation made him realise the complexity of the security challenges faced by the police.
“I now see that the issue is more than that of the Commissioner of Police or other security chiefs. The needless killings of today angered me so deeply that I thought such should have been nipped in the bud. Yet, I can see that the security agencies led by the Commissioner of Police put in their best and deserve commendation,” Davido stated.
He went on to commend CP Mohammed Umar Abba and the security agencies for their dedication to ensuring peace in the state, noting that he was unaware that the Commissioner and his team had been having sleepless nights in their bid to maintain law and order.
“In memories of the innocent souls lost, human emotions overwhelmed me and many of my friends around. We did not know the Commissioner of Police had been having sleepless nights alongside other commanders,” he said.
Davido urged the police and other security agencies to intensify their efforts to ensure peace prevails, especially as the state prepares for its local government elections scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025.
He spoke on the importance of a peaceful election, stating that such an achievement would be a “crowning glory” not only for politicians but also for security chiefs.
The singer concluded his statement by wishing CP Mohammed Umar Abba and other security commanders success as they work to address the current challenges in the state.
