The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum held its first meeting of the year on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Government House in Asaba, Delta State.
The governors reviewed the performance of PDP-led states, assessed the nation’s condition at the end of 2024, and discussed internal party matters.
The forum expressed concern over the economic difficulties facing Nigerians, attributing them to the federal government’s macroeconomic policies. The governors stated that these policies have increased hardship and made it difficult for states to achieve meaningful progress. They urged the federal government to review and adjust its economic strategies to provide relief to citizens.
The meeting acknowledged the ongoing leadership dispute within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), particularly regarding the position of the National Secretary. The governors backed the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the matter and advised the NWC to implement the judgment without delay.
The forum examined the legal requirements for convening the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting and recommended rescheduling it to March 13, 2025, to ensure proper preparations.
While commending the armed forces and security agencies for their efforts in combating insecurity, the governors expressed concern over the resurgence of non-state actors threatening national stability. They called for stronger security measures to protect citizens and reinforce the nation’s defense system.
The forum assured Nigerians that despite current challenges, the PDP remains dedicated to restoring the country to a period of better living conditions, security, and national unity, as seen before 2015.
The governors encouraged citizens not to lose hope, promising that the party would continue working towards a better future.
The meeting was attended by governors and representatives from PDP-led states, including Bauchi, Rivers, Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Osun, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Plateau, and Oyo.
The Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, was also present.
