The release of Nigerian singer Wizkid’s latest song ‘bad to me’, has continued cause controversy following the exchange between Davido and SA DJ Maphorisa.
Recall that Maphorisa had claimed to have started the Amapiano sound in Nigeria with Wizkid and Burna boy prompting a response from David who had been ascribed the honor.
Now Nigerian singer May D has chimed in, claiming that he pioneered the sound, a claim which he’s made in the past.
He wrote:
Na me bring amapiano come naija , and I have awards to prove that! We started the naija South African collaboration! I don’t like saying shit like this but y’all like putting me under the box
DJ Neptune also waded into the matter as he claimed that he also had a major part to play in the import of the amapiano sound.
He tweeted:
And shout out to me too on this Amapiano teeze. How did I forget I made Nobody (Amapiano remix) ft Focalistic, Joeboy & Eazi. In fact the first Naija to feature the kid from SA but I don’t like making noise especially on this app, they can change it for anyone
Music producer Kiddominant has this to say:
Me and Cassper “ewallet” started amapiano in west africa. Sponono followed and made it bigger then David & foca really took the genre to another level. Facts
Meanwhile DJ Maphorisa has replied Davido’s comment asking why he hated him by saying he meant no disrespect. He wrote:
I’m not fighting with you at all, my brother. I’m just adding to the amapiano story, because it’s a BIG story with many players. Also this is a historical moment for SA. We’ve never had a genre blow like this. ALL LOVE ONE AFRICA ❤️ Respect u big time u did a lot 4 the Culture
