A suspected drunk truck driver has been arrested after ramming into a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) official, severely injuring him in the Ojodu Berger area of Lagos.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, bearing plate number KTG 33 ZZ, was speeding from Agidingbi towards Omole when the driver lost control and hit the official, who was on his way to his duty post.
The victim suffered severe fractures in his right leg and hand and is currently receiving intensive care at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
The driver attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly apprehended by officers from Ojodu Police Station, working alongside LASTMA officials.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, visited the injured officer at LASUTH and condemned the reckless act.
He urged motorists to drive responsibly and reiterated that LASTMA officials are there to ensure smooth traffic flow, not to antagonise road users.
Security operatives have been commended for their quick response in apprehending the suspect.
